Easily machined and cast, aluminum is non-magnetic, does not spark, and is not toxic.  When exposed to air, it becomes coated with an oxide which protects this active metal from further attack.  Aluminum is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust.  A good conductor of heat and electricity.  Discovered in 1825 by Oersted.
